My Finds Friday

I’m really excited for this week’s, My Finds Friday!

Today was such a great day and what even made it better was that it was Friday AND payday! Woohoo! Work was quiet, so I was able to tackle a lot of the things that were on my ‘To Do’ list. It felt really good to knock some things off! The only downside of the day was when I picked Emmett up, he was in a really awful mood.

I was hoping that after the 45 minute nap on the ride home he’d feel better but once he was inside and out of his car-seat, he was still really cranky and just wanting to be held. Thankfully, Seamus had dinner all put together and it just needed to go in the oven because we had quite the cranky monster on our hands. While we switched off, passing Emmett between us, so I could change and Seamus could check the food, Emmett just continued to whine and cry every so often. I felt really bad for the cutie because nothing was soothing him and he was less than interested in dinner (delicious Mexican pizzas). We tried a few different foods and then just stopped pushing him, we know he’ll eat when he’s hungry.

Since he wouldn’t calm down, we decided it was going to be an early bath and bed tonight. There was no sense keeping him awake if he was so cranky and tired. After a very unhappy bath, we got him in his jammies, and he curled up to nurse and then finally doze off. Poor guy!  I really think he’s getting another tooth in, he’s had a running nose and been a little phlegmy as well.

Alright, so without further ado, here are My Finds Friday:

  • Car seats are REALLY expensive, so why not enter to win a free one from A Nation of Moms? They’re giving away a Recaro Performance Sport Car Seat – such a fantastic opportunity, click here to enter!! There are multiple ways you can join, so jump on over and check it out!
  • I’m obsessed with fashion! I may not be able to afford a lot of the high fashion items, but I love it nonetheless. One day last summer I came across the blog, Outfit Posts and my life has been forever changed. This week the author chose this as an outfit, I’m so so in love with this look. Readers, I’m going to be honest with you, so much of my wardrobe has been purchased over the last year because of outfit ideas from her blog. I’m telling you, check it out, you WILL NOT regret it!
  • I am pretty much always looking for new food ideas. I hate getting stuck in a rut and when I eat the same thing over and over again, I get bored and start eating junk food. Recently I came across, Kath Eats Real Food, where she has her “Lately” posts. In these posts she shares her latest meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I have found a whole slew of new ideas for all three meals, because of her blog.
  • A brand new blog find of mine is Mommy Run Fast and I’m loving it! Laura, the author, offers a Virtual Race Series. Be sure to click the link to get all the details but basically you commit to running a 5 or 10 mile virtual race by the 5th of each month, September – December. Sounds like a great place to find motivation. I’m joining, you should too!

This is how I found Emmett when we had gotten to day care this morning.

Magic Path of Yoga – {Giveaway}

As parents and busy individuals, I think we are always looking to fit in more activity into our day, but with a demanding job, family and friends, it is often hard to move enough. Enter, The Magic Path of Yoga!

magic-path-of-yoga-3

The Magic Path of Yoga is a board game for individuals ages 6 years and up, where the object is to get you active and moving by performing different yoga poses. For those of you who are competitive, this will encourage you to get moving just by wanting to win the game. The only way to win? By getting to the OM square in the center of the game.

When UpsideDown games contacted me, I was super excited to try their product. After a bit of research I learned that it was an active game, one that would hopefully get me off the couch and would also allow me to get my family involved. Technically Emmett doesn’t fall into their age requirements, but he is firmly in the mimicking phase and loves doing whatever I do.

magic-path-of-yoga-4The premise of the game is for two people (or two teams) to roll the dice, land on a color and pick a card of that color. On the card is a yoga pose that you (or your entire team) need to perform correctly. If performed correctly you get to keep your card, if not, it goes back in that color’s pile. If you get one of each color card, you get to move to a jump square which leads to the center of the board, where the OM is located. As mentioned earlier, the first one to the center OM wins. What a great concept!

magic-path-of-yoga-1I have always loved board games, and some of my favorite memories from childhood are playing Monopoly or another board game as a family. Looking back, I would have loved to have this game, to have my family broken up into two teams and having my parents perform the different moves with us. I can’t even imagine my parents doing the moves! It makes me giggle just thinking about it. It would have been SO MUCH FUN! I’m excited to bring this to dinner parties, where my friends and I can all play together and get a light workout, while having a great time.

From the moment I opened the game, I was wowed! The box, board and cards are all bright and colorful and very well made. The game board and all other pieces are very sturdy, it is a game that will last.

magic-path-of-yoga-6I cannot wait until Emmett is a bit older and can actually play against me or Seamus. This is such a fantastic game!

Now, here’s the best news:

My Finds Friday

Time for another addition of My Finds Friday.

I hope by now you’re all out of work or nearly out of work, on this wonderful day that should be considered a holiday (each and every week).

This was a very busy and tiring week and honestly I can barely remember what I did each day. Not because I did nothing but because the days flew by in a blink and before I knew it I was in bed and my alarm was going off to start the new day. Yikes! I’m not a big fan of how quickly life is passing by but I don’t see it slowly down any time soon.

Alright, onto My Finds Friday, I hope you like this week’s finds!

(These are in no particular order.)

  • I’m going to start tonight right off with a motivational post. Lauren, at closer to 30, wrote the post, “Running: it’s not for everyone, but it could be.” She has some great tips on how to get into running, even if you’ve always thought that it wasn’t the sport for you. I recommend you check it out if you’re looking for some seriously good inspiration.
  • Here’s a hilarious article on Daily Life, titled Things Your Yoga Teacher Won’t Tell You and like it’s title it talks about everything your yoga teacher might think, but won’t say out loud. I laughed at more than one!

  • As I was recently promoted to a supervisory position, I’m constantly Googling and searching for great tips to be a better manager. I came across this one on Twitter, it’s an infographic all about What Makes Up a Successful Manager? There is some great info and some great insight.
  • All of our mornings are crazy but there might just be a way that you can cut down on the time it takes you and your family to get ready. Daily Mom’s Article, 5 Time Saving Tips For Your Morning Routine, might have some ideas you’ve never thought of before. My son’s only 1 but I never even thought about choosing 5 outfits for him on Sunday so that I can just grab and go in the morning, I’m hoping this will shave off some time.
Mmmmm... This food is good!

Mmmmm… This food is good!

My father-in-law sent us a flash drive of pictures of Emmett from his birthday party, I can’t wait to share them all with you!

Your turn!

Do you love Fridays as much as I do?

Review: Active by Old Navy

It’s no secret that I’ve been trying to workout and get into shape, pretty much forever, but more immediately since having Emmett. It’s also no secret, to those who know me well, that I love shopping and clothes. So it makes sense that when it comes to working out, just like with anything else, I like to be clothed well.

Since I am considered plus sized, finding workout clothes that fit the way they should and that are made out of wicking materials, is hard. Most items in my size are just essentially big bags that cover you but offer no style or comfort when sweating hard, and when I workout I workout hard, sweat is typically dripping off of me.

With that said, I had heard really good things about Old Navy’s Active line and decided to try it for myself. I can’t say I was surprised (because Old Navy has served me well through the years), but I was seriously impressed with how well everything fit. I bought, Women’s Plus Active by Old Navy Tanks (in black), Women’s Plus Active by Old Navy GoDRY Tanks (in neon green, which is sadly no longer offered), Women’s Plus Cropped Wide-Leg Yoga Pants (in black), and Women’s Plus Active by Old Navy Compression Shorts (9″) (in black) and I loved each and every piece.

Since Old Navy no longer carries their plus sized line in stores, I placed my order online and excitedly waited for everything to be delivered. Once it arrived I immediately tried everything on and was so pleasantly surprised to find that everything fit perfectly and had the look that I desired while working out (which is not a big giant t-shirt). I have to be honest, I read the reviews for each I item I bought because I knew that some of the items were considered “compression” and would be tight. I wanted to ensure I gave myself enough leeway, so as to be comfortable.

Women's Plus Active by Old Navy TanksThe Women’s Plus Active by Old Navy Tanks (image above), fits tightly and has compression support but because of the reviews, I ordered a size up and it fit perfectly. The first time I wore the top, it was tight under my arms but it has since loosened up and literally fits perfectly. It does not roll up around my waste and it covers well too. The first time I worked out in it, I was anxious to see whether it would wick the sweat away like it says it will in the description and it absolutely did!

Women's Plus Active by Old Navy GoDRY Tanks

The Women’s Plus Active by Old Navy GoDRY Tanks, is one of my all time favorite workout tops. It was so soft and so comfortable from the moment I put it on. I’ve worn this shirt a bunch of times and the quality of it hasn’t changed. I got my normal size in this item because it is not considered compression and it fit perfectly.

Women's Plus Cropped Wide-Leg Yoga Pants - Black Jack

Love the Women’s Plus Cropped Wide-Leg Yoga Pants! They are so comfortable and I wear them constantly. They are perfect for working out, for anything from jogging, to spinning, to yoga but are also great for just lounging and relaxing around the house, I use them for both.

Women's Plus Active by Old Navy Compression Shorts (9") - Black JackWomen’s Plus Active by Old Navy Compression Shorts are another compression support item, because of that I paid close attention to the reviews again and decided to go with a size larger than my normal one. This was the right decision, the shorts fit perfectly and aren’t so tight that they feel restricting. I love these alone or underneath another pair of shorts and do a really great job of keeping the sweat away from your body.

There are several more pieces from the Active line that I want but for now, what I have is, is doing a really good job of motivating me to workout because I get to look cute and feel comfortable while doing it.

**This is NOT a sponsored review, I just really REALLY love Old Navy’s Active line and want any plus sized woman out there to know that they can be comfortabl, while working out.
