Sunday Meal Plan – Week of 10/27/14

Sunday Meal Plan

Happy Sunday! I’m so happy to have you here!

Before I get into the meal plan, I wanted to just talk about what a sweet little boy Emmett has been. Why? Because I love him and because I’m a proud momma. He’s been so full of pleases and thank yous and it just warms my heart each and everyday.

This morning, Seamus said he woke up and was telling him thank you for everything, getting him out of the crib, changing his diaper, giving hugs, etc. The best part for me is that he is using please and thank you appropriately. He doesn’t seem to have any confusion on when to use please, thank you and you’re welcome. I love it! I realize it might seem pretty silly to some, but when you have a child, you are just so proud of everything they do. 🙂

Love him!

So how was your weekend?

Ours was pretty awesome! Saturday I got up early and headed to Starbucks to get some of my work done. I have a desk at home, but as soon as Emmett starts waking up, I lose my concentration. I had a lot to do and wanted to be productive, so I showered and headed out. I’m glad I did, too! I got so much accomplished!

When I got home, Emmett and I spent some time playing with Play-Doh (Emmett is partial to the Play-Doh fun factory – affliate link). With the this set, there is a mother, father, and boy cut out. He had me help him make one for each of us. Then he took the mother and father and had each of them say I love you to the other and then give each other kisses. It was the sweetest thing! I’m so glad that we’re showing him what a loving and happy relationship is all about.

We also headed down to visit my parents which was really nice. It’s always so laid back there! Emmett plays and we chat, he loves playing with all the different toys that grandma has!

Today will be filled with laundry, grocery shopping, food prep and tidying up. Nothing exciting, but all things that need to be done.

And now, onto our meal plan

What Does Binge Eating Disorder Look Like?

It’s What I Ate Wednesday, and it’s been awhile since I’ve checked in with all of you on how my Binge Eating Disorder has been. I thought I’d take today to do that.

binge-eating-disorder-430-4

If you went by the pictures I took today, my eating would appear to be in check. Seamus made me a yummy egg sandwich on a GF muffin, and I had a banana. Sadly, I didn’t stop there – as soon as Seamus and Emmett left, I jumped to the fridge and ate two slices of pizza. They were delicious, and I regretted them the second I started eating them, but as usual, I felt out of control and didn’t know how to stop myself. I polished off the two pieces and continued my self-hatred until I got into the office, where I was quickly distracted by work.

binge-eating-disorder-430

The distraction kept me occupied for a couple of hours, because I didn’t think about food until lunch time came around and I started smelling everyone’s delicious food (or not so delicious in the case of some frozen meals). Either way, the second I started smelling the food smells, all I could think about is food. A sub, to be exact, heavy on the onion and mayo. I got through a few more work things, and then I rushed out the door. I grabbed a turkey sub from Subway and headed home to sit on the couch and binge.

While I was sitting on the couch, I realized that I hadn’t gotten a picture of my food. Then, the thought popped into my head, “I wouldn’t want to have taken a picture. I don’t want anyone knowing what I am eating. I’ll just lie and say I had something healthy and that I forgot to grab a picture.” That was almost literally the thought that went through my head. And I almost did it, I almost lied to you, readers. But then, while I was bathing Emmett, I had a small epiphany… Maybe if I am honest and up-front with what I went through, it will help me overcome some binge eating issues, and it could possibly help someone else down the line, who may be struggling with the same thing.

When it came time to leave work, I had to fight a very strong urge to go to Starbucks and buy all the things. I managed, by a constant voice in my head saying, “Emmett’s in the car, Emmett’s in the car. You don’t want to be a bad role model for him.” I ended up with just a coffee, which is why I was going there anyway.

binge-eating-disorder-430-1

Dinner was easy because I was home with Seamus. I rarely binge when he’s around because I don’t want him to see me doing it. He knows, I’ve shared my struggles with him, but I don’t want him to see it. He probably wouldn’t judge me, but I don’t want to even take the risk, so I eat a normal amount and keep the binging to myself.

So, friends, I’ve laid it all out there. It’s so scary to be so forthcoming with things, but I really want to get better, and keeping it a deep dark secret isn’t working, so I’m figuring that I may as well try sharing and see if I get to a better spot.

What I Ate Wednesday – #20

It’s definitely What I Ate Wednesday time, again!

Hey there! It’s 5 am and I’m feeling energetic, positive and ready to tackle today. It’s likely to be a busy one at work, so I’m glad that I have this energy now.

Guess how I started my morning? With a cup of coffee, on the porch! For those of you that live in Buffalo (or the surrounding areas), know that we got a decent amount of snow last night and are probably wondering what the heck is wrong with this crazy woman. 🙂 Well, I only spent about 10 minutes outside, took some really pretty pics and then came back in. It’s just too lovely outside to even think of missing it. It is early, so very little of the snow on the ground has been touched (though, our plow guy has already come and gone, whoop whoop), and I just love the look of untouched snow. Plus, it is really light snow and is sitting prettily on the tree branches.
When that happens, I always feel like I’m walking in a winter wonderland. So, yes, I did take a sip of coffee while on the porch, but the rest of it was enjoyed with my butt firmly planted on the couch, under my warm blanket.

I’ve already mentioned it, but here’s my yummy morning coffee.

what-i-ate-wednesday-1127Okay, so I have to admit that I haven’t taken a picture of one single other item of food from today. It’s been a busy day and I didn’t even think to take any photos of my food. I can tell you what I ate, though. Breakfast was my usual hard boiled eggs and avocado, lunch was a chicken sandwich that I grabbed from BK on my way back from getting my oil changed and dinner was pizza with family.

My sister and her family arrived this evening! They flew in around 5:30 and everyone came over for dinner. It was Seamus, Emmett and I, my mom and dad, my brother, and baby sister, and of course, my other sister, her husband and daughter. It was so much fun to have our house full to the brim with people. We ordered pizza from Zetti’s, and spent a wonderful couple hours visiting and watching the babies play. They were really cute with one another, not quite playing together but playing in the same area. So much fun! I can’t wait till Saturday to see them again.

Alright, that’s it for today, folks! Be sure to stop on over to Peas and Crayons and link-up with What I Ate Wednesday.

Your turn!

Do you get snow? Do you love it, like I do?

What I Ate Wednesday – #19

Woohoo – It’s What I Ate Wednesday time!

Hi everyone! I’m feeling super duper peppy tonight! That might be because I had a cup of coffee at 7, after we finished dinner. You might think I’m crazy but I like being able to write at night and the only way to stay conscious is by having a cup. I’m sure by 10:30 I’ll be ready to hit the hay.

Today was another fantastic day! Busy, with lots going on at work but all good stuff and I’m trying to keep a positive attitude, it makes everything so much better. I also had a doctor’s appointment this morning and my blood pressure was perfect, I was very pleased. Granted, I am taking BP meds, but either way at least it is in a healthy zone.

Alright, time for my eats.

I started my day off the way I usually do, with a cup of coffee. Yum!

what-i-ate-wednesday-1120That beauty right there is what gets me pumping right from the get go. I know some people may say I drink too much, but I never feel jittery and I don’t load it with sugar or milk (just a splash), and my doctor isn’t concerned, so I’ll keep on, keepin’ on.

And just because I want to prove how much I love coffee, I had a second cup when I got to work. 😉

what-i-ate-wednesday-1120-2After I finished my second cup, I had my breakfast. As I mentioned in my Weekly Wishes post on Monday, I wanted to cut all gluten out of my breakfasts, so far so good. I’ve been having an organic avocado, cubed up with 2 hard boiled eggs and then topped with Frank’s Red Hot. A good friend of mine eats this frequently for breakfast and it sounded right up my alley, so I gave it a try. I love it! And so far, I’m 3 days in with no gluten at breakfast! Go me!

All morning, I kept reminding myself to get a picture of my breakfast but I ended up forgetting until it was all gone. Here’s a pic of the empty container, for the fun of it.

what-i-ate-wednesday-1120-3Lunch was my typical salad; romaine lettuce, sunflower seeds, blue cheese, ham, turkey and some Ken’s Honey Mustard.

what-i-ate-wednesday-1113Dinner was something simple and thrown together at the last minute, Seamus worked out tonight and Emmett and I got home late. We ended up having chicken fingers and french fries, straight out of the oven. Not the top most healthy meal ever, but at least it’s better than a Big Mac and fries, right?

what-i-ate-wednesday-1120-1And that’s about it, folks. No dessert for me tonight, I just wasn’t in the mood. Be sure to stop on over to Peas and Crayons and link up with What I Ate Wednesday. Thanks for hosting, Jenn!

What I Ate Wednesday – #8

Happy What I Ate Wednesday!

Today was Emmett’s second day at his day care and it seems to be going pretty well. When I dropped him off yesterday and set him on the floor, he looked like a little lost puppy. Just staring at me, trying to figure out where he was and who everyone around him was. He had met the teachers before, but it was 2 weeks earlier and in a span of 10 minutes, no way he’d have any recollection of that. I felt terrible leaving him, even though he was fully engulfed in a toy when I walked out. I knew that he would likely be confused later, after he realized I was gone and wonder where his normal teachers were. 🙁

When I picked him up they said he had done alright. He’d whined a little in the beginning but had warmed up as the day went on and they’d even had him sleep in a cot, instead of a crib. What a big boy! I was thrilled to hear that he had done pretty well despite being around new folks.

Today seemed to go even better! He was pretty clingy when I dropped him off and didn’t want to be left, but his teacher distracted him with breakfast and he was fine. Today’s report for the day was that of smiles and happiness, I am thrilled to hear this. I want him to adjust and be happy, that is most important, it is just an added benefit that my ride to and from day care has been chopped in half. Woohoo!

Now onto the food…

Since today was my first Wednesday back in the office since July of 2012 (I had previously been working from home on Wednesdays) my pictures are a little lackluster.

I scarfed down breakfast too quickly to get a picture, but I had a whole wheat English muffin, a slice of cheese and 1 egg. Yummy and very filling! I also had some coffee in my new Starbucks mug, I love it!

what-i-ate-wednesday-943 what-i-ate-wednesday-94-2

My snack was something new and oh so very delicious. I had plain Greek yogurt with a squirt of honey, a handful of blueberries, a half cup of unsweetened coconut and some Bear Naked banana nut granola. Oh my YUM!

what-i-ate-wednesday-94-7

Lunch was quick but very good. I had some romaine hearts, unsalted sunflower seeds, blue cheese crumbles, Krakus Ham and a drizzle of Ken’s Light Honey Mustard. Oh! And a hunk of Tuscan garlic bread from Wegmans.

what-i-ate-wednesday-94-5 what-i-ate-wednesday-94-4

Once again, I completely forgot to snap a pic of dinner. I really apologize, I was not used to having to work so I was thrown off my routine. Either way, I had a delicious burger and some broccoli.

It was a really tasty and reasonably healthy What I Ate Wednesday, I’ll take it!

Life is Good!

Anyone who knows me, knows that I’ve struggled with depression and anxiety for several years. The best way to combat the yucky feelings is to venture outdoors for some exercise and sun, I did exactly that this morning!

Most Sunday mornings start out the same way in our house, Emmett lets us know he’s awake by yelling a little bit, I head in, change his diaper and nurse him and then we head back into our bed for some cuddles. I seriously dread the day when Emmett decides he no longer is interested in the cuddles. This time is one of my absolute favorites! It allows Seamus and I to gradually wake up, plus we get to cuddle our sweet boy. We then usually progress into breakfast, getting Emmett dressed and play time but I wanted to try something different today.

I work full-time outside the home, so I struggle almost daily to find time to workout. Last night, as I’m drifting off, it hit me, why not workout while Emmett is eating breakfast and getting dressed, then I’m not missing out on time with him AND I’m getting a workout in. I let Seamus in on my plans and he was A-OK with it, so out the door I went after, our ultimate cuddle session.

72113-7

I did about 6 miles on my bike and I made sure that I hit some serious inclines so that I got a good burn. I felt amazing! It was sunny and warm, but not humid, it just felt great to be out there moving.

72113-1

And in case you’re one of those skeptics that think there is nothing beautiful in Buffalo, then you’ve never ventured into the city. There are gorgeous old homes, lakes, trails, views, etc., to look at while you move along. The picture below doesn’t do the scene justice, we have a beautiful little lake about a mile from my house where they rent out rowboats. At night they chain them all together in the center, every morning I pass it going to work and I just envision the stunning pictures that could be made with a better camera than my iPhone.

72113-2

I also want to mention, that if you live in Buffalo, or even if you don’t and are looking for somewhere to donate, consider the Buffalo Zoo. They currently have a campaign going on to try and build a new habitat for the Polar Bears and they need the help of our community to do so.

72113-3

On my way home I swung by Starbucks and grabed an iced coffee, because really, is there anything better in the world than Starbucks iced coffee? I think not.

72113-4

Venti Iced Americano with a shot of Vanilla and splash of cream, please! Thank you!

I took my water bottle in with me so that I could chug some of that while I waited for my coffee.

Once home, I walk in the door and get the biggest smile from my little boy. Whether he missed me or not, I have no idea, but there is no doubt of the love he has towards me. It makes me so so blissfully happy seeing him smile! I had some breakfast while I cooled down and hung out with E-dog.

Chobani with slivered raw almonds and a banana.

Chobani with slivered raw almonds and a banana.

Then after my shower it was time for Emmett’s nap, so he and I hunkered in for a bit more nursing and then lots more cuddles.

72113-572113-6You tell me, is there anything sweeter than a sleeping, cuddly baby?

The day is only half way over and it has been perfect! Now to keep this positive momentum going into the stressful week I have ahead.

How do you start your Sundays?
