Flint Lockwood and a Meal Plan

Making our meal plan was pretty easy this week, but before I get to that, I want to share Emmett’s costume – he was Flint Lockwood from the Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs movies.

A few weeks ago, Seamus was at Kohl’s shopping and came across a t-shirt that had the tuxedo print on it. He obviously bought it, because what’s cuter than a 2 year old wearing a tuxedo shirt. HEHE At this point we still were unsure what Emmett would be for Halloween, he had mentioned being Daniel Tiger from Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, but it has a head piece and Emmett isn’t fond of putting things on his head. So, we kept thinking…

One Saturday morning when Emmett decided to sleep in, Seamus and I were just laying in bed brainstorming ideas and he had the brilliant idea for Emmett to be Flint Lockwood. With his tuxedo shirt, and a pair of jeans, all we would need is a lab coat! Did you know you can get them in child-size lab coat and at an affordable cost?? This is the lab coat (affiliate link) we purchased for Emmett and it fit him perfectly.

Flint Lockwood and a Meal Plan - Baby Doodah7

This worked out perfectly, because to Emmett it felt as though he was just wearing regular clothes not a costume so there was no fighting to get dressed. Plus, he loved that his labcoat had pockets and he could hide his many necessities (ie: his hot wheels, binkie, Percy from Thomas and Friends). It was really the cutest thing!!

We made it about 6 houses down the street before we decided to call it a night. I wasn’t expecting to get far, it was chilly and drizzling, but I thought we’d at least make it down the street, oh well. At the first house, while we were waiting for Emmett to grab his candy, the family dog ran out to sniff Emmett. Very sweet dog, Emmett was not in danger, but because Emmett doesn’t have a lot of experiences with dogs, he was freaked out. So, every house going forward we had to coax him to come up, that they didn’t have a dog, that it would be okay – it got to the point where he was just crying. Poor guy! I kept asking if he wanted to go home and he’d tell me no, I asked again and he said yes. So home we went. I’m glad we got out and got to experience everything – next year will be even MORE fun. 🙂

Flint Lockwood and a Meal Plan - Baby Doodah6Now our Meal Plan

Crock-Pot Chicken Noodle Soup

Crock-Pot Chicken Noodle Soup - Baby DoodahHeart-warming Chicken Noodle Soup

It happens every year, the cooler weather hits and I want soup. There is just something so very very comforting about sitting on the couch (because soup just shouldn’t be eaten anywhere but on the couch – haha), curled up in your softest sweatpants and socks, and your warmest sweatshirt, sipping that delicious steaming bowl of soup. Seriously, is there anything better!?

Chicken Noodle Soup-Baby Doodah 1

It’s no secret that Fall is my favorite time of year. Just something about it makes me come alive! I recently decided to try my hand at chicken noodle soup, but wanted to make it in the crock-pot because I’m not one for standing over the stove for hours on end. I like to cook, and then let the food do its thing.

I have to admit, this adventure was a success. The soup turned out delicious, and I cannot wait to make it again! It’s filling, hearty and warms you through and through. I highly recommend you run out and get the ingredients today, and make it for lunch all week. It would absolutely make a perfect dinner, too – I just prefer having soup for lunch.

Happy 2 YEAR Anniversary to Baby Doodah!

Can you believe it?!? This lil ole blog is officially 2 years old (actually as of yesterday).

When Emmett was born, I got an idea in my brain that I would launch a blog, but I was really nervous because I had started numerous blogs in the past that fallen flat. I gave up! I stopped writing and started thinking I didn’t have enough content. However, when having Emmett a whole new world opened up to me, I had (obviously) never been a parent before and could now share my experiences and I could also feature the other blogs and articles that I was learning from.

That’s how it started out, and I loved it! I still do, but now we’re even bigger. I talk about a huge variety of things, from stuff about my little Baby Doodah, to recipes, my tips and tricks as a new mom, how I’m coping with Binge Eating Disorder, or even tips for specific things like Potty training a toddler. I’ve learned a lot in the 2 years that I’ve been doing this, and I have enjoyed every moment of it.

If you look back or read some of my older posts, you can see that my writing style and photo quality has changed, in a good way. I’ve grown personally, as a mom and a writer, but also professionally. Now, I not only look at this little corner of the blog world as my place to share about my family, but also to provide tips or recommendations to others who may be going through something similar.

I’ve always loved writing. My best friend in grade school and I used to sit and write out fictional stories, mainly about the Little Mermaid (because it was huge back then), but we made up our own twists and turns. I wrote, she illustrated – we had fun! Throughout the years I forgot that love for writing, but I am really glad I found it again.

Nothing brings me more joy than sitting down with a hot idea, that is just dying to be written. It feels so good to have this place. I am truly honored that you stop by and read what I write. Knowing that there are people who genuinely care about what I have to say is a very moving thing.

I thank you from the very bottom of my heart!!

And to thank you, I have teamed up with Philips AVENT to offer you a pretty freakin’ (if I do say so myself) giveaway.

Here’s what’s included: A Philips AVENT Single Electric Comfort Breast pump and Philips AVENT Breast Milk Storage Bags. And because I really REALLY love you guys, I am also going to be giving away a $50 Visa Gift Card.

One lucky winner will win all three items. So, please, use the Rafflecopter widget below and enter to win! Contest ends 9/26/14. I will announce the winner on Monday, 9/29/14.

I also want to mention that Philips AVENT will be having a 30th Birthday Twitter party, hosted by Philips AVENT, and Kerri Jablonski of @IamtheMaven, tonight (9/16/14) from 8pm – 9 pm. We’re going to be celebrating Philips AVENT’s 30th birthday party, you can follow along using the hashtag #AVENTparents for a chance to win prizes, hear advice and share your parenting stories. I hope to see you there!

Victoria chose What Moms Are Really Thinking When You Want to Visit Their Newborn from Wirl Mamas. “I chose this post because it was entertaining and spoke the truth. There are some things that guests have to keep in mind when visiting a mom who has just had a baby. I especially agree that they should hold back on the lies about saying that you look good when obviously you do not after hours of being in labor.”

Katie also chose this post. “This article is hilarious … And SO TRUE!! Having recently just had our third child, I can totally relate! This should be sent as a public service announcement to all before anyone goes to see a newborn! Tell us we look good … And bring food (ha!).”

This post also received the most clicks.

Cathy chose Lemon Sugar Scrub from Melanie Gets Married. “I love everything lemon … and I have wanted to try making my own scrub. I love the ingredients and simplicity of this scrub! Can’t wait to make some!”

Silvie also chose this post. “I chose this as my favorite post this week because I am a big believer that you must take care of your skin. When ever I find something that will allow me to pamper myself while taking care of my skin, then it’s an automatic win! I tried Melanie’s recipe and I absolutely love it, the results and the scent is amazing!”

Cindy chose How to Make a Giant Outdoor Water Bed from My Frugal Adventures. “I chose this because it looks like it would be a lot of fun for kids of all ages. It is also a project that I think I could actually make!”

Christian-Pinterest-Boards

Katy chose Top 10 Christian Pinterest Boards from Satisfaction Through Christ. “I’m a big fan of roundups that help me focus my energies when I head into a time-sucking platform like Pinterest. Knowing these particular boards have the backing of a respected blogger makes me that much more excited to check out their content, knowing I am headed in the right direction and will find lots of inspiration. For as easy as it is to find just about anything on Pinterest, that sometimes makes it feel overwhelming and I like that I can use posts like this to streamline my searches.”

mom problems mom life

Rhonda chose I Got 99 Problems But Perky Boobs Ain’t One from Pig and Dac. “I found this post hilarious! We all know life changes after childbirth, but it also changes our bodies and not for the better. Accepting these changes requires a look back and a look forward, and that’s exactly what this blogger did as she tells her story.”

Natasha also chose this post. “This post is so hilariously funny! My boobs went poof too, and I only have 1 child. Our bodies definitely change after having a baby, and it is so important to accept our new bodies once they develop. Regardless, I enjoyed this post! Still laughing! Great post!”

magnoliaE1-1024x1018

Rachel chose Magnolia Leaf Wreath from Canary Street Crafts. “I chose this post because I love the elegant simplicity and personalization of this wreath. It is perfect any time of year and can the monogram really adds a special touch to any front door.”

14526464267_3e4ac63b1f

Jillian chose The Only Picture I Regretted Taking // iMO from Logan Can… “I love this post because I feel the exact same way as Logan. I can’t help but take every single photo possible of my son, and I love how she shares how important it is to her and why.”

Alycia chose Let’s Start A Revolution! from B Marie Photography. “I love the message in this post. Finding the beauty in ourselves will help us to teach our children that everyone is beautiful and to find things they love about themselves. I am guilty of this for sure, but after reading this, I am going to start making a conscious effort to see the beauty!”

Flickr-4-660

Jessica chose Unplugging From Technology For Healthier Family Living from Urban Naturale. “This is sooo true!! I also liked how she refers to 3 year old’s using some sort of technology today too. That totally hit me bacause I have a 3 year old who loves youtube videos! Since health has been my number one concern these tips are spot on to get the family involved and “unplug” for a couple hours. At the same time, it promotes family time which we all want and need :).”

Honey-Wheat-Bread-Recipe

Stacey chose Homemade Honey Wheat Bread Recipe! from Thrifty NW Mom. “I have really been giving strong consideration to starting to bake my families bread from scratch. My family can really go through 6 to 8 loaves during the two weeks between grocery store trips, of store bought bread and curious if it would be cheaper to make it fresh. This recipe looks wonderful and I am looking forward to giving it a try! Thank you so much for sharing!”

DIY-door-frame-chalkboard-latteeveryday.com_1.jpg1

Tara chose DIY Door Frame Chalkboard from Latte Everyday. “When I saw this I thought, “what a genius idea!” I would have never thought of that. So creative how Megan turned a door frame into a chalkboard sign, I just love it! Love the message that she wrote on it too!”

Delicious Zucchini Pasta

Hey everyone! I thought I’d do something a little different today and let a good friend of mine take the reigns and share a delicious (and gluten-free) recipe with you today!

Alright Adrianne – take it away!

Hi all! Adrianne here. I’m super excited to be sharing this recipe with the Baby Doodah community! It’s a perfect light meal for these hot summer days, and you will exponentially increase your chances of getting non-veggie eaters to eat their veggies (this is obviously backed by science). (This post first appeared on my blog adie-cakes, but it was just to good to keep to my own little corner of the blogosphere!)

In my (seemingly) never-ending quest to be the poster child for health and wellness (or, more realistically, offset those crazy days), I’m always on the lookout for interesting healthy meals.

Enter: vegetables masquerading as pasta.

Zucchini-Pasta-BabyDoodah

Now I know some lend themselves better to the task (like spaghetti squash, an obvious choice as the name would suggest), but I like to make things difficult. Zucchini? Without a mandolin? Why not?

Zucchni-Pasta-BabyDoodah1

While cutting zucchini into thin strips may be an annoyingly tedious and time consuming process, it was absolutely, totally worth it. As someone who loves her carby carbs, believe me when I tell you that you won’t even miss the pasta.

Now, don’t go in expecting the zucchini to taste like pasta, because that would be delusional. But, it makes for a pretty decent substitute, as a veggie with a relatively low flavor profile.

Zucchini-Pasta-BabyDoodah2

I used my zucchini pasta as a sub in my previously-posted pasta with sautéed leeks and mint (link to come later if you don’t feel like searching, but I can’t figure out how to get a link in when posting from the good ol’ iPad), which made for a very Springy green dinner.

So. Gather thee thy patience and a good sharp knife, and a few zucchini (duh), and make some pasta without the guilt!

Zucchni Pasta-BabyDoodah3

Zucchini “pasta” (1-2 zucchini per person, depending on size (of the zucchini, not the person))

Cut off the ends of your zucchini. Slice it lengthwise to about 1cm thick (aka thin – you’d be crazy to think I used a ruler). Slice each piece into matchsticks. Bring a pot of shallow water to a simmer, and simmer the zucchini for about 4-5 minutes. The zucchini should be cooked, but not soft and mushy like it can get (think al dente). Strain out water and toss zucchini with whatever sauce you’re using. I threw it into the pan with my leeks and sautéed for a couple minutes, for reference.

Enjoy!

Sunday Meal Plan – Week 10

Hey everyone! Happy Sunday! It’s time to share my Sunday Meal Plan with you.

I wish I was in better spirits, because I really do enjoy linking up my meal plan, but we’ve had a rough week, and an especially rough weekend. You’re probably wondering what’s going on, or maybe you’re not, either way I’m going to share.

Over the last week, the tenants below us have had the volume on their TV / stereo up very high. The bass is completely audible through the floors and is quite disturbing when we’re trying to watch TV, or focus on something else. We tried to work with them, asking them on 2 separate occasions if they minded turning down the bass. We have absolutely no issue with talking, or other ambient noise that is caused by living above someone. After dealing with the noise for an additional few days, we reached out to our landlord, who was absolutely no help, and quite honestly made us feel much worse about the situation.

We texted back and forth with her on Thursday evening (she requested that we text). She said she’d contact them, and I’m certain she did. However, the music continued to be loud all night, and then again Friday night it was bad. I went to bed at 8:30 because I just couldn’t handle the noise. Seamus texted the landlord again, asking that she contact us at her earliest convenience. She called the next morning (Saturday), and upon our complaints of the noise, said that she was not their mother and had no control over the volume of their music or what they did. Also, going on to say that they deserve to have people over and live. I agree. We’re not asking them to not live or not have people over, we’re asking for them to turn their bass down.

We explained all this to her, but she didn’t want to hear it and began repeating the same things over and over again, about their right to live. Her only suggestion was to call the police, which we really didn’t want to do. We really would rather just handle things peacefully, so we’re thinking that we may write them a letter explaining that we don’t want a feud and that we have no issue with the actual music or their gatherings, simply their bass. Our hope is that by putting it all out there, they will want to be respectful of us, as we want to be of them. I’ll keep you posted, but this has really put our whole exciting move in a really crudy spot.

Now for our meal plan

Sunday: Crock-pot Salsa Chicken

Monday: Leftover Pulled pork

Tuesday: Hot Dogs and fries

Wednesday: Marinated Chicken and Veggies

Thursday: Homemade Chicken Fried Rice

Friday: Cheeseburgers and veggies

Saturday: Scrounge around the house

Oh! And I did manage to find my menu planners, so I’m back to writing everything out, and it was so much easier to make our meal plan and shopping list this week. Woohoo!!

As usual, I’m linking up with Laura from Mommy Run Fast and Jill from jillconyers.com.

Your turn!

Have you ever had a difficult landlord, that was unwilling to help?
