Here are the Featured posts from last week!

1977515_origCe Ce chose Homeschool Days – A Day In The Life 2014-2015 from Life’s Hidden Treasures. “I’m new to homeschooling and need plenty of examples of how to create an effective schedule, I thought this post was very helpful!”

15-tips-to-carving-the-best-pumpkin

Becky chose 15 Tips to Carving the Best Pumpkin from Living Frugal with Erika. “I love this post because I’m itching for fall to truly get here. I love carving pumpkins with my son and can’t wait to use some of these tips this year.”

holidaymoney

Rachel chose Easy Ways to Earn Extra Money For the Holidays {From Home!} from Work at Home Wisdom. “Seriously, the holiday rush will be on us much sooner than we even want to think about. And I love earning a little extra money. She has put together a great list and her own experiences which is really valuable.”

starbucks-apple-cider-recipe-343x500

Kelly chose Homemade Starbucks Caramel Apple Cider Recipe from My Frugal Adventures. “I love the caramel cider from Starbucks, but a yummy version that you can make at home is much better.”

Double-Tiered-Wood-Slice-Serving-Platter1

Tara chose Double Tiered Wood Slice Serving Platter from Houseologie. “I love how Leigh Anne created an amazing serving platter from a couple pieces of wood slices from the craft store. So creative and unique!”

toddler-not-talking

Sandy chose My Toddler Isn’t Talking Yet – Should I Be Worried? from West Coast Mama. “I had a really hard time picking my favorite this week, but I ultimately decided on this post because, to me, it summarizes the most important guide we have in parenting. We have to rely on our gut instinct. As parents we know our kids better than anyone else. Our gut will tell us which way to go when we have a concern about our kids.”

Image-halle-berry-emmys-2014-emmy

Kimberly chose My Picks For The 2014 Best and Worst Emmys Dresses from Mother 2 Mother Blog. “”I love seeing the stunning attire on the red carpet at awards shows. The Emmys did not disappoint this year and Rhonda nailed it with her picks. Find out where Halle Berry, Camila, Alves, Lena Dunham, and Viola Davis landed on her list.”

9180500_orig

Cindy chose How We Succeeded In Becoming A One-Income Family from Life’s Hidden Treasures. “We have been living off basically 1 income for the last 23 years. I brought a lot of debt into our marriage…don’t do that! We have worked hard and have just a little debt left. Our house and cars are paid off all that is left is 1 pesky old credit card and a small loan. Living on 1 income is not as difficult as it seems when your priorities are in order.”

Chelsea also chose this post. “This post was surprisingly inspirational. When I found it on the linkup, I thought it would be a how-to, step-by-step post on saving money, which I’m always looking to do. Instead, Cathy shared her family’s experience and how they have ‘freed’ themselves through tithing. Such a great reminder of what is most important in life. So happy I found this post!”

100_1742

Stacey chose Homemade Soap Scum Shower Cleaner from Robyn’s View. “Now that we are a single income family, I am always trying to find new homemade cleaning recipes. I can’t wait to make some to try in our bathroom! Thank you so much for sharing!”

Why I Was Scared To Have A Boy

Natasha chose I Was Scared to Have A Boy from The Contented Wife Blog. “I was so fearful of having a boy…I didn’t know what to expect and I worried about the same things that you did. I worried that he would grow older and shun me or our mother-son bond wouldn’t withstand the test of times. I still worry about those times – but I cherish the moments that I have with him now. And I’m glad that I did that, rather than worrying about everything else. Those are the moments that will last forever, even well after he’s married and moved on with his life. But you’re right – sons always have a bond with their mothers, well after they move on with their life.”

Victoria also chose this post. “I chose [this post] because it was a topic I could relate to. When I found out I was pregnant with my first son I was scared out of my mind. I knew boys were rough and felt they were harder to raise than girls were. I had no clue how I would make it as a mom of a boy. Therefore, when I saw this post linked up this week it immediately gained my attention.”

A Day in the Life – healthy choices

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #BalanceRewards #CollectiveBias

Day in the Life - healthy choices

It can be really hard to get motivated to workout, eat healthy or get enough steps in each day. I am constantly looking for new and fun ways to keep myself motivated. A huge motivator for me has always been rewards, I love rewarding myself and I love being rewarded via contests or competitions. I just love the thrill of competing! Today I’ve found a new way to keep myself motivated, and I’m VERY excited to share it with you!!

If you’ve ever shopped at Walgreens you know their customer loyalty program is called Balance Rewards. With Balance Rewards you earn points for everyday purchases you make, as well as setting up some prescriptions for auto-refill, getting certain immunizations and NOW for setting goals, taking steps, losing weight, maintaining your weight and taking your measurements, through their healthy choices program.

THIS. IS. HUGE.

Walgreen's healthy choices2

Walgreens Balance Rewards work up to be essentially free items. Those points that you earn eventually turn into rewards that can be used to purchase items. That means that when you walk, weigh-in or track some of the other items in Walgreens healthy choices program, you’re earning points that will eventually be used for stuff you need. So awesome!!

My Day in the Life with healthy choices

The moment I heard about this app, I downloaded it and began using it. The first thing I did was set up some goals, I went with basic ones, like hitting 10,000 steps a day and losing 25 lbs within 3 months. I wanted to make sure my goals were achievable and fun to meet. Your options for goals are limitless, so no matter what you’re trying to achieve you can work towards it with the help of the healthy choices program.

Every morning I open the app, enter my weight (and earn my points), enter the hours that I slept the previous night (you do not earn points for entering your sleep) and then head to make my coffee.

While at work, I try to ensure that I’m getting up from my desk every hour to hour and a half to take a quick walk around the building. My steps add up quickly, which all get entered into the Walgreens app at the end of the day, to earn more points!! I love it, I’m constantly looking for new ways to get my steps in. So, I’ll march while I’m folding laundry or while Emmett is playing in his sand box, I’ll take laps around our yard, anything to add them up!

Walgreen's healthy choices

However, in addition to my walking, I’m also doing a PiYO workout. I’m loving it, but some of the moves are pretty intense and require you to bend or move into positions that my body is not quite ready for. So what did I do? I went to Walgreens and got myself a yoga block. Yep! Walgreens sure does carry these, and it was super affordable, too. In fact, I don’t know if you’re aware, but Walgreens has an entire section dedicated to diet & nutrition.

walgreen's healthy choices3

Since I’ve been doing my PiYO with the yoga block, I’m able to get into deeper stretches and put myself into positions, I couldn’t get to before. My posture is better, and my form and alignment are getting more and more accurate. I love the way I feel! I feel like I’m doing so much good for my body.

And, you guessed it! I add my PiYO workout into my Walgreens Balance Rewards app and earn even more rewards that will go towards stuff I need around the house. My workouts are going to save us money!! How can I say no to that??

Walgreen's healthy choices1

One last thing I want to mention, and for me, it’s a big one! You can link your RunKeeper account with the healthy choices program. That means, that any workout you complete with RunKeeper is then communicated with Walgreens earning you more points.

So here’s my recommendation: Work to get healthy, eat better, exercise hard, and download the Walgreens app and sign-up for the healthy choices program. I’m pretty sure earning points towards items you need is enough motivation to get you up and out the door, or up and on the treadmill. Do it! Go now! 🙂

Your turn!!

What are your favorite ways to get yourself motivated to workout?

When you download the Walgreens app, please share how much you LOVE it, in the comments below!

Sunday Meal Plan – Week #26

Happy Sunday, readers!!

Another great weekend is nearly in the books. We have had an astounding weekend. Saturday we went to Dunkirk to celebrate my dad’s birthday. His actual day was this past Wednesday the 13th, but weekends are always easier to celebrate on. We had a mini-BBQ, lots of hot dogs, hamburgers and pasta salad. I didn’t eat the greatest but it was really delicious!

One of the best parts of Saturday was that Emmett got to meet one of his idols, Rolley. 😉 He seriously loves Bob the Builder and was so excited when we took a walk by my mom’s house and they had this cement roller there. I wish I had video’d the whole thing, his excitement was ADORABLE!

Sunday-Meal-Plan-81714

And then today has been super productive!! I woke up at 5:30 this morning, thinking I’d get some time to get work done, but Emmett had other ideas. He wanted to wake up at 5:45 and spend some time cuddling on the couch watching Bob the Builder. I can’t say I blame him, I am pretty awesome, but it cut into my work time. haha

Ah well!! In the end it worked out. I pulled my laptop out while he watched TV, I got a few odds and ends done, and then eventually I made him breakfast. After breakfast, we woke Seamus up, mainly so I could get to our hamper and start our laundry. I’ve gotten 4 loads of laundry done, grocery shopping, food prep and some Beachbody stuff all complete and it’s only just 3 pm. Feels good to be so productive!!

Our Weekly Meal Plan

This weeks’ meal plan has some new recipes on it, ones that I am REALLY excited to try!!

Sunday: Chili & corn bread (carry-over from last week)

Monday: Leftovers

Tuesday: White Pizza Stuffed Zucchini Boats

Wednesday: Chicken Shawarma

Thursday: Steak, Chick Pea & Tomato Salad

Friday: Marinated Chicken with Sauteed Corn with Bacon and Leeks

Saturday: BBQ Bacon Hot Dogs and Baked Fries

The BBQ Bacon Hot Dog is going to be a Seamus creation. He went to a food truck that sold that type of hot dog, but didn’t get the chance to try it, so now he wants to make it at home. We’re saving it for the weekend, since we like to be less indulgent during the week. I’ll be sure to report back on how delicious (or not) it ends up being. 🙂

Like I said, we’re trying a few new things this week and I am very excited about that! We needed to spice up our Sunday meal plan.

I’m linking up with Laura from Mommy, Run Fast! and Jill from jillconyers.com

Your turn!

How was your weekend?

Have you tried any new recipes recently?

Holly chose…To Work With My Hands

karen

To Work With My Hands is the place to find fresh ideas for creativity. From DIY projects for the home to garden inspiration and information, you are sure to find inspiration to create something new. Everything you see here we do in our busy, homeschooling family of 9, so most projects are quick and simple. Sometimes we tackle larger projects that require more time to complete, but I’ll show you how to break them down into smaller chunks of time, so that the satisfaction of finishing a project is not lost.

I’m Charlie, a 30-something mother to 3 wonderful crazy messy noisy boys, and the wife to a DIY procrastinator. We’re expecting our 4th (and final) baby this summer! We live in total chaos in Lancaster, Lancashire (UK). I’m a Parent Blogger and am currently writing two blogs, my main one over at CharlieBeth’s Life as Mumma Walker, and a second mini-blog following our pregnancy with our 4th baby. I love to write and take my kids on adventures especially around Lancashire, Cumbria and North Wales. If I won millions on the lottery I’d jack in my job and have about a dozen kids!

Sunday Meal Plan – Week #24

Phew! Is it really Sunday evening already? Boo!!

We had such a fantastic weekend. We had no set plans, but we managed to enjoy ourselves fully!! Saturday, Seamus took Emmett to run a few errands and then to the playground for some father / son bonding time. 🙂 Not really, it was more because momma had a lot of work to get done and Seamus was thoughtful enough to take him out.

And, because my husband rocks my socks, he came home with a gorgeous Peace Lily. I’m SO lucky! Not only does my husband take our kiddo out so that I can get work done, but then comes home with gifts. Love him! 😀

That evening we went out for pizza, mainly because we had forgotten to pull anything out of the freezer for dinner. Whoops! Not that I minded pizza, though! We went to Blasdell Pizza for their chicken finger pizza which is amazing. We don’t go out there often because it’s a bit of a trek, but it’s always well worth it when we go.

When we got home, Emmett wanted to watch the movie we got him for his birthday, The Lego Movie. We got it mainly because the main character’s name is Emmet (with only one t), but also because it looked good, and it DID NOT disappoint. Super cute!!

Sunday, was an even more laid back day. I got up early, around 5, made coffee and went right to work on some things for the blog and for my fitness business. (BTW – It really does feel fantastic to be so motivated!) Once Emmett started stirring, I went in and got him and we all cuddled in bed together for almost an hour. It was HEAVEN!!! Eventually we showered and made our way to Wegmans, but it was so nice to be so leisurely.

After shopping, we had lunch, Emmett napped (I also napped) and then we went out for Ice Cream to our local favorite spot, Anderson’s. Afterward, we, of course, had to make a quick pit stop to a playground, then back home to play in the backyard.

It really was such a lovely weekend, I’m REALLY sad to see it go!! 🙁

Anyhoo – Onto the Sunday meal plan!

Sunday-Meal-Plan---Baby-Doodah-727

Sunday – Scrounge around house

Monday – Hamburgers & Oven fries

Tuesday – Fish Tacos & Fresh Veggies (carry-over)

Wednesday – Mediterranean Stuffed Chicken (from TJs) & roasted red potatoes

Thursday – Orange Chicken & Rice

Friday – Mexican Pizzas

Saturday – Teriyaki Pork Loin & Cauliflower

A pretty simple week, which always leads to us sticking to the menu!! We need to start budgeting better and eating out less, that’s for sure!

I’m linking up with Laura from Mommy, Run Fast! and Jill from jillconyers.com

Your turn!

I’d love to hear what you have on the menu for the week? I’m always looking for new ideas!
